The club confirmed his departure via Twitter on Thursday morning after Tekpetey failed to turn up for training in recent weeks and was exempted from the squad.

The 22-year-old has one year left on his loan deal and Düsseldorf have the option of making the deal permanent.

However, the forward has been pushing for a move out of the club despite still being under contract.

With a loan move to Ludogorets Razgrad in the pipeline for around €200,000, Fortuna suspended Tekpetey to allow him to focus on completing the move.

Tekpetey made only 10 appearances in all competitions for Fortuna Düsseldorf in his debut season.

The forward joined Fortuna Düsseldorf on a two-season long loan deal from German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 during the last summer transfer window.

He has capped two times for the senior national team of Ghana after earning a call-up to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
