Breaking News: Former Kotoko winger Joseph Amoako sentenced to prison in Sweden for rape

Swedish based Ghanaian footballer Joseph Amoako has been sentenced to two years in prison for raping a 16-year-old girl.

And after serving his sentence, the Asante Kotoko owned player will be expelled from the Scandinavian country. Amoako will not be allowed entry into Sweden for ten years after his sentence.

In early October, two of Helsingborg's players were arrested on suspicion of rape on Södergatan in May 2022 with Amoako no exception, but the players were later.

After a few days, prosecutors dropped the investigation against one of the players - who returned to training with the club.

In contrast, the 19-year-old Ghanaian footballer was charged with rape against his denial.

But on Thursday, Helsingborg's district court announced the Ghanaian youngster will be sentenced in prison and will pay damages of SEK 215,000 to the girl.

Meanwhile, his club, Helsingborgs IF has reached agreement to part ways with the Ghanaian international following his detention.

Amoako joined the Swedish club in early 2022 from Asante Kotoko and made 9 appearances before his sentence.
