BREAKING NEWS: Kurt Okraku wins GFA presidential election

Published on: 25 October 2019

Footballghana.com can confirm that Dreams FC bankroller Kurt Okraku has emerged as the winner of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential election.

At the end of a fiercely contested exercise at the Physicians and Surgeons center in Accra, the chairman of the MTN FA Cup committee has beaten the likes of George Afriyie, Nana Yaw Amponsah, Fred Pappoe, and Lawyers Amanda Clinton and George Ankomah Mensah.

The election had to go into three rounds with candidates falling at every step of the way.

At the end of the first round, Fred Pappoe pulled out after gaining just 6 votes while the two Lawyers in the contest were forced to drop out after failing to get any vote.

The second round featured the remaining three contestants but Nana Yaw Amponsah was bullied by Kurt Okraku and George Afriyie.

Midway through the voting in the third round, George Afriyie conceded defeat over what he described as his effort to allow football to win at the end of the day.

Per the statutes of the GFA, a final round was conducted with just Kurt Okraku being the contesting candidate to ensure he pulls the required 50 plus 1% vote.
