Burnley have reached an agreement to sign Steveven Defour from Anderlecht, as has been confirmed by the Belgian club via a tweet.

The midfielder will join the newly promoted Clarets side for a fee of £7.35m as they look to remain in the Premier League past one season, having garnered a reputation for being a bit of a yo-yo club as of late.

The Belgian has been capped 46 times by his national side, and has won the Belgian league on two occasions with Standard Liege.

Defour has long been a target for Premier League clubs, with Everton lodging an £11m bid for him back in 2011 while he was still a Liege player.

Manchester United were also said to be chasing him at one point and he was even publicly courted by Sir Alex Ferguson, who sent the player a letter after he broke his foot five years ago.

"Dear Steven, I have just heard about your injury and, in the name of Manchester United, I would like to wish you a full and speedy recovery," the letter read.

"I am sure at the moment you must be feeling awful and that you'll have all kinds of questions. Steven, these are natural worries but I have to tell you that modern medicine and treatments are incredible, you have to have confidence in them.

"I'm going to follow your progress closely and I will remain in contact with your club to have news of your recovery."

Defour hasn't been much of a scorer in recent seasons, notching just one goal in 18 appearances for Anderlecht last season. Whether or not he'll be more productive at Burnley remains to be seen.
