The two clubs met this afternoon for the second leg of the preliminary round of this year’s second-tier inter-club competition organized by the continent’s governing body.

An outstanding performance from the Ghana Premier League giants in the early minutes of the first half has seen them progress into the next phase of the competition ahead of their opponent from Equatorial Guinea.

The Miners took the lead as early as the 2nd minute when inspirational captain Shafiu Mumuni stepped up to convert an awarded penalty kick.

That early goal gave the Obuasi-based side confidence as they went on to increase their lead on the 6th minute. It was no other person than Shafiu Mumuni who took advantage of a defensive blunder, beat his marker, before finally firing his shot into the back of the net.

Shafui who missed the first leg of the tie completed his hat-trick with another sleek goal from close range after receiving a well-weighted pass.

Now in the driving seat, Ashanti Gold dictated the pace of the encounter in most parts of the remaining minutes. Though Akonangui FC had their moments, they could not find the back of the net and have been eliminated after losing 3-0 at the end of the second leg.
