Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s opponent for the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League, Kano Pillars have been given a major boost ahead of the clash after lifting the Aiteo cup over the weekend by defeating Tornadoes on penalties.

The Aiteo Cup which is the FA Cup competition in Nigeria was climaxed on Sunday with the two top clubs locking horns at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

At the end of the day, it was Kano Pillars who lifted the coveted trophy courtesy a 4-3 win on penalties following a hard-fought goalless draw.

The triumph is the first major trophy for the Northerners since 2014 where they won the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The first and only win for the Masu Gida was in 1953 when the competition was called Governor's Cup.

The victory has given the Nigerian side a boost in confidence as they gear up for that important fixture with Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the CAF Champions League.

The first leg of the tie will be played at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Nigeria on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
