CAF CONF. CUP: Medeama beat TP Mazembe to put a foot into the semi-finals

Ghana’s sole representatives in the CAF Confederations cup group stage Medeama SC defeated reigning African Champions TP Mazembe 3-2 to increase their chances of securing a semi-final place in the competition.

The Mauves and Yellows needed the maximum points in this game played at the Essipong stadium on Sunday to have the advantage over contenders MO Bejaia who lost 1-0 to group A underdogs Young Boys of Tanzania on Saturday.

Atta Agyei put the home side in the lead in the 30th minute to give fans hope ahead of the second half. After the break, Erick Kwakwa earned the Tarkwa based side a penalty after he was brought down in the box and Moses Sarpong made no mistake from the spot after converting well to give Medeama a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute.

Seconds after, the visitors replied by pulling one back through Jonathan Bolingi and kept on mounting pressure on the home side which yielded the equalizer from Reinford Kalaba in the 73rd minute.

It looked like a drawn game set to break hearts but Kwesi Donsu got the home fans up on their feet’s in a very charged atmosphere after he grabbed the winner in the dying embers of the game to make it 3-2 in favour of Medeama who needs a draw in their final game against Algerian side MO Bejaia to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
