CAF CONFED. CUP: AS Vita Club beat Aduana Stars 2:0

Ghana’s sole representative in continental competition suffered a big blow at the hands of AS Vita Club of DR Congo as they lost 2:0 in the fourth match of their group match.

Ahead of this game, the two lied third and fourth on the group table with fourth points each. Just a point behind leaders Raja Casablanca of Morocco.

Aduana Stars had already beaten the Congolese team in the first leg when they hosted them at their home stadium in Ghana. The game ending two one in favour of Aduana.

As expected today, the host AS Vita Club took the game by the scrap of the neck as soon as the first half began. They edged the visitors into their own half and threatened Joseph Addo in the post on countless occasions.

Finally, on the 14th Minute mark, Makusu Mundele opened the scoring from just inside the six-yard box. He jumped highest to head in a cross from the left flank after Aduana goalie Joseph Addo misjudged the cross.

AS Vita Club pushed for another equalizer but could not find the back as the first half came to an end.

Aduana Stars tried to get the equalizer at the start of the second half but did not have the energy to do so as AS Vita continued to dominate proceedings. The closest they came was when Bright Adjei headed a corner kick into the waiting arms of AS Vita goalkeeper Nelson Lukong Bongaman.

Approaching the 80th minute, a well composed Makusu Mundele scored from inside the 18-yard box to complete his brace after a swift counter-attack left Aduana vulnerable. There were no more goals as the game ended two zero after 90 minutes.

Following this result, the dynamics of the group stage has changed, AS Vita Club are now top of the log with seven points. Former leaders Raja Casablanca are now second with five points pending a game they will play later today.

If they win, they might just go top again. Aduana follows in the third position with four points and ASEC Mimosas remains at the bottom of the log.
