CAF Confed Cup: Ashgold draw one all on the road against Akonangui FC

Ghana Premier League side, Obuasi Ashanti Gold has picked up an important point in the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup first round after drawing on the road against Akonangui FC at the Ebebiyin Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Ghanaian club played as guests to the Equatorial Guinea club earlier today to kick start their campaign in this year’s edition of CAF’s second-tier inter-club competitions.

Having fielded a first eleven with so much attacking prowess, Coach Ricardo Da Rocha’s men shot in front on the 55th-minute courtesy Richard Osei Agyemang who produced a perfect overhead kick that ended up beating Akonangui’s goalkeeper Carlos Musibe.

The home side came alive after going behind and quickly devised a strategy to attack the Miners. Their constant attack on the Ghanaian club yielded results on the 75th minute when Diosando Mbele found the back of the net.

Both sides tried to get another equalizer to snatch the win but failed to do after some wasteful finishing from both sets of attackers in the remaining minutes of the match.

The game eventually ended 1-1 with Akonangui and Ashgold sharing the spoils one apiece.

Ashgold returns home with a good result but will have to win the return leg at home on August 25, 2019, to ensure they progress into the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
