CAF Confederation Cup: Asante Kotoko highly optimistic of qualification - Coach Johnson Smith

Asante Kotoko deputy coach Johnson Smith is confident his side will beat San Pedro to secure qualification to the group stage of Caf Confederation Cup as they both sides meet for the second leg of the final preliminary round of the competition in Abidjan on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors recorded a 1-0 win over the Ivorians in the first leg tie at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi last Monday.

The Reds now face a daunting task of knocking out San Pedro to qualify for the group stage of the Confederation Cup in Ivory Coast.

"We know we will face a difficult match in Cote d’Iviore but we are prepared for them. We are confident of bringing victory home after Sunday to qualify for the group stage," coach Johnson Smith said in an interview with the Daily Graphic.

"We are not going to be defensive or offensive; we will try and win all our balls and catch them on the break because they will attack us since they need a goal.

He added: "We will also use strong and robust players to exhibit strength in the game.

"We are aware that the people (San Pedro) were not happy with their stay in Kumasi, but the issues are not from us. We have psyched our players well to be able to deal with any issue and to stay calm and focused till the match is over."
