CAF Confederation Cup: Asante Kotoko players set to receive $5OO qualification bonus

Asante Kotoko made history on Sunday as they reached the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in 11-years with a 2-1 victory over Coton Sport in Kumasi to progress 5-3 on aggregate.

Goals from Amos Frimpong and Maxwell Baakoh ensured the Porcupine Warriors wrapped up the tie before the 60th minute, having led 3-2 from the first leg in Cameroon.

After breaking the 11-year jinx, the players are set to receive $500 each as a bonus for qualifying the team to the group stage of the CAF Confederation.

Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman, Dr.Kwame Kyei, Nana Akwasi Gyembibi, said the package is to motivate the players to work harder in the group stage of the competition.

Meanwhile, Kotoko will know their opponents in the group stage of the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup on Monday, 21 January.

The 16 qualified teams will engage each other in a league format with the first team to book a place in the quarter-final.

The group stages game will kick off between 1 February and 15 March 2019.

The draw will take place on Monday in Egypt at 10.00 GMT.
