CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has announced that the 2021 AFCON tournament for Under-17 footballers has been postponed.

The decision was taken during CAF's Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Speaking during the meeting, Ahmad Ahmad revealed that the competition which usually serves as a World Cup qualifier has been moved from April 2021 to July of the same year, in Mauritania.

“The Under-17 AFCON has been postponed to July 2021 as the World Cup tournament will take place in October 2021,” he said.

Cameroon won the 2019 tournament with Tanzania hosting the event.

Cameroon, Angola, Nigeria, and Senegal picked up the qualification slots and represented Africa in that competition.

CAF in Tuesday's executive meeting took a number of other decisions that will affect tournament schedules from this year to 2022.
