CAF U-23 AFCON: Ghana set to play South Africa today to fight for a 3rd place finish

The Black Meteors of Ghana has a huge task ahead of them later this afternoon as they come up against their counterpart of South Africa to fight for a 3rd place finish at the 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The two sides have impressed at the ongoing tournament in Egypt but unfortunately hit a snag when they got to the semi-final stage.

While Ghana lost 3-2 on penalties to Cote d’Ivoire following a two-all draw at the end of 90 minutes plus extra time, South Africa also suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hand s of host nation Egypt.

The West Africans are now set to lock horns with the South Africans in a crucial third-place match that has the potential of handing the winner the last qualification ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Black Meteors who have missed the Games for the last 14 years are determined and hoping to see off their South Africa counterpart this afternoon to ensure they keep their hopes of qualification alive.

The match has been scheduled to take place at the iconic Cairo International Stadium and will kick off at 14:00GMT.
