CAF U-23 AFCON: We are ready to fight for Ghana – Evans Mensah

HJK winger Evans Mensah has admitted that Ghana has been pitted in a tough group in the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament but insists the team will fight to ensure they advance into the knockout stage.

The attacker after impressing in the Finnish League has earned a place in coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side that is expected to represent the Black Meteors in this year’s u-23 tournament which is being staged in Egypt.

Ghana has been drawn against the host nation as well as Cameroon and Mali. Speaking in an interview ahead of the opening game against Cameroon, Evans Mensah says the team is not scared of any team.

According to him, all the players are determined to fight their hearts out to ensure they help the team to achieve its aim.

“Every country in Egypt is going to play football, the Group is difficult but at the end of the day is your mindset and your personality that you go to the field with that will determine whether you will win or lose.

“We all agree that our group is tough but we do not care, at the end of the day, ours is to score and win for everyone to see we are determined. What people are saying does not matter, we the players believe in ourselves and what we can do”, he said.

The Finland-based winger added, “We are on course, if you look at the pool of players we have, we are all very talented and everyone is ready to fight for Ghana. Me myself, I cannot even wait for the tournament to start on Friday. Is a good platform for everyone to make Ghana proud. We are all eager for the competition and if you look at our training, everybody is determined.”

Ghana will play Cameroon on Friday, November 8, 2019, at the Cairo International Stadium.
