Carlo Ancelotti Delighted With Bayern's First-Half Display in Victory Over Borussia Monchengladbach

Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti praised his side's first-half performance in the 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

Goals from Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal were enough for the Bundesliga champions to ease past Monchengladbach for their first win in three matches, ending a week which saw Ancelotti being forced to claim there was no crisis at the club, despite also thumping PSV Eindhoven 4-1 in the Champions League.

"We've learned from Frankfurt," said Ancelotti.

"In the first half, it was a really good display, our best this season with a lot of intensity. We played a good game, we were strong in defence and had good control.

"I told the players at half time to be careful as nothing was decided and you could see the energy wasn't 100 per cent after our midweek game. They are intelligent players and have taken on board what I told them."

Bayern centre-half Mats Hummels said Bayern had been given a rude awakening after the disappointing draw at Frankfurt but was pleased that he and his teammates were able to respond strongly on Saturday.

"We put in a very concentrated, dominant performance in the first half, so we can be very satisfied. We didn't allow them any chances," Hummels said.

"In the second half, we were too passive with the ball.We let things get a bit precarious on one or two occasions, but not much happened."
