Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers reveals Liverpool axe led to heart scare

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed he suffered a heart scare after his dismissal by Liverpool.

The 44-year-old has his contract terminated by the Reds back in October 2015, and has since found huge success with Celtic - where he is yet to lost with the Hoops domestically.

He told the BBC: "I had an incident when I left Liverpool. Within a couple of weeks I went to Dubai and I lay in fear one night thinking I was having a heart attack.

"I suppose my mum's situation maybe came over me because she died suddenly of a heart attack.

"I was rushed into the hospital in Dubai. I was looked after great and it was basically a reaction to the body, the tightening of everywhere in and around my chest.

"It was starting to condition itself in terms of not having that pressure, so that was something that really made me sit up and talk about resilience there.

"How to manage that and how to manage pressure and how to regulate it, so that was an item that was important for me to go and address.

"I didn't feel at the time it was any more or less pressure, because you're so ingrained in it, but definitely coming away from it, I felt that after that seven-month period out - and I needed that period out to reflect - and then in my next job wherever that was going to be, that I could learn from that experience.

"And show that you've got your health, you've got your happiness and you've got your energy back in order to succeed."
