Champions League Roundup: Arsenal and City Draw, Bayern Humbled and Celtic Crash Out

Wednesday night saw the representatives of groups A, B, C and Dbattle it out in the penultimate round of Champions League groupqualification. Here is how the action unfolded across Europe.

Group A


Arsenal played out an entertaining 2-2 drawwith PSG as both sides failed to assure themselvesof top spot in the group. Edison Cavani put PSG ahead, but Arsenalwere level just before the break as Olivier Giroud converted a penalty after Alexis Sanchez was fouled.

Arsenal then turned the game on its head when Marco Veratti inadvertently guided the ball into his own net. PSG pressure grew and they got a deserved equaliser when Lucas Moura headed the ball in via Alex Iwobi, after some poor Arsenal defending.


In Bulgaria, Ludogorets played out an abject 0-0 draw with Basel.

Group B


Benfica threw away a three goal lead as they were held to a draw in Turkey.Vincent Aboubakar lashed home in the 89th minute to claim an unlikely pointfor Besiktas.

In the other game in the group, Napoli were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Dynamo Kiev. This leaves the group tantalisingly poised heading into the last round of fixtures.

Group C


Manchester City qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League after they drew 1-1 with Borussia Monchengladbach. Monchengladbach took the lead through Raffael before City hit back through David Silva's tap in.


Both sides were reduced to ten men in the second half as firstly Lars Stindl was sent off for two bookable offences, before City's Fernandinho followed him for an early bath twelve minutes later.

In the group's other game, Celtic were comfortably beaten by Barcelona. Lionel Messi opened the scoring after Neymar opened up the Celtic defence with a blisteringpass. Messi then doubled his tally from the penalty spot in the second half.

Group D


Bayern Munich were humbled by FC Rostov as they succumbed to a 3-2 defeat in Russia. Despite taking the lead, Bayern Munich went on to lose the game, givingRostov their first win in the group.


Atletico Madrid wrapped up top spot in the group as they dispatched PSV with goals from Kevin Gameiro and Antoine Griezmann.
