CHAN 2022: Black Galaxies coach Annor Walker didn’t select his squad based on merit – Fmr. Deputy Sports Minister

Published on: 01 February 2023

A former Deputy Minister of Sports, Vincent Asamoah has given his assessment of Ghana’s performance at the 2022 CHAN tournament in Algeria.

According to him, the fact that the Black Galaxies had a coach he describes as outmoded did not help matters.

Speaking to Akoma FM in an interview, Vincent Asamoah said Coach Annor Walker must be blamed for calling players who do not merit a place in the Black Galaxies team for the tournament.

“It's very embarrassing and shameful that Niger will defeat Ghana in a CAF competition.

“Let's all be honest, the players who were selected for the Black Galaxy were not selected on merit, someone should convince me that they are the best in our league?

“How can you select Kofi Kodzi to lead our striking department? Awako is good but he's aging. Our coach (Annor Walker) is outmoded with tactics, he couldn't even vary his tactics after the first half, I was also surprised that Prosper Ogum too didn't help to change matters,” Vincent Asamoah said.

The former Deputy Sports Minister added, “Our technical team was bad, players selection too was not on merit and we still wanted to win the trophy.”

After a disappointing spell at the CHAN 2022 tournament, Ghana crashed out at the quarter-final stage.
