CHAN Total Cameroon 2020: Remember these names

Published on: 14 January 2021

The 2020 Total African Nations Championship Cameroon kicks off this Saturday with hosts Cameroon facing Zimbabwe in Yaoundé.

The tournament designed exclusively for footballers from their domestic competitions will reveal many of their talents, possibly for transfers to the best international leagues.

Several players will serve as stars during this Total CHAN, Cameroon 2020, as the local star Jacques Zoua or the top scorer of the previous edition, Morocco’s Ayoub El Kaabi.

Jacques Zoua, return to the front

The Indomitable Lions 29-year-old striker is undoubtedly one of the attractions of this Total CHAN 2020.

Zoua started his career in Coton Sport de Garoua, before joining FC Sion, Hamburg and Ajaccio among others, and now he returns to the fold for the continental tournament. He joined AS Futuro last October to lead the Lions in a tournament he wants to win and repeat what he did winning the Total AFCON in Gabon 2017.

Four-time Swiss champion, the Cameroonian striker with 23 caps, remains the leader of the Indomitable Lions who want to win the title at home, one year before hosting Total AFCON.

Ayoub El Kaabi, 2018 Top Scorer is back

Champion, best player and top scorer of Total CHAN, Morocco 2018, Ayoub El Kaabi is eagerly awaited in Cameroon.

The Moroccan striker’s performance speaks for itself. After a short stint in China, El Kaabi joined Wydad last November, to become once again eligible to play in Total CHAN, aims to imitate what he achieved three years ago at home with the ranks of Houssine Amouta's team.

John Bocco, Tanzania’s veteran striker

At 31, with huge experience, John Bocco holds the record for top scorer in the Tanzanian league. Bocco leads Taifa Stars in Total CHAN 2020 with ambition to shine once again. The Simba SC forward was a big contributor to Tanzania’s second qualification at the continental tournament. His wish will be to lead his side to the second round at least.

Issa Ibrahim Djibrilla, Mena’s hope

Considered a great hope for Niger football, Issa Ibrahim Djibrilla has been showing off his talent for two seasons. The 22-year-old forward will be in the spotlight at the Total CHAN 2020 in Cameroon with Mena of Niger.

With 7 goals and 5 assists in 20 appearances last season with Sahel Sporting Club before joining Rahimo FC, Djibrilla still dreams of playing in Europe. CHAN 2020 is certainly the springboard for it.
