Ghana legend Abedi Ayew Pele says the proposals for changes to be made in football on the continent is crucial to the future of the sport in Africa.

Many football administrators and past footballers have met in Morocco to discuss on some changes to be made at the Africa Cup of nations as well as in club football.

The proposals laid out include the expansion of the number of countries at the Africa Cup of nations from 16 to 24, hosting of the prestigious continental tournament in countries outside of the continent, the shifting of the dates from January to June amongst many others.

Three times Africa Footballer of the year, Abedi Pele says it is important to consider every single idea laid down.

“These are things that are very very important on the continent and we must be able to stand up and decide because of our children,” he said in an interview.

Abedi Pele played for Ghana 73 times and is considered the greatest football player in his country's history, and among the best in Africa.

Until 7 June 2013 when he was surpassed by Asamoah Gyan, he was the top goal scorer for Ghana's Black Stars with 33 goals.

He also featured in the African Championships of the 1980s and 90s with his national team, and a member of Ghana's victorious team in the 1982 African Cup of Nations.
