Charles Taylor entreats foreign-based Ghanaian players to sign contract with GFA before switching nationality

Former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko star Charles Taylor has advised foreign-based Ghanaian players to sign contract with the Ghana Football Association before they switch nationality.

The Ghana FA in recent times has working around the clock to get Ghanaian players abroad to represent the Black Stars at national level.

The arrival of Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi and Timothy Fosu-Mensah of Bayer Leverkusen have sparked talks of nationality switch following the duo snub for Euro 2020 championship.

Odoi and Fosu Mensah despite featuring for the three lions of England and the Dutch are still eligible to play for Ghana per the new FIFA rules.

The pair are among a host of UK-born players on the radar of the Black Stars, the other targets include Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Brighton & Hove Albion fullback Tariq Lamptey.

But according to Taylor it will be prudent for the foreign based Ghanaian players to either reject or sign contract with the domestic football governing body before they switch nationality to salvage their career.

“We have all played for the national team before but I will not advise Ghanaian players abroad to switch and play for the Black Stars because Ghana is ending career”

“Again if they would like to switch nationality I will advise them to sign contract with the FA so they can be assured of call ups day in day out because we know what happened to Kevin Prince Boateng and Emmanuel Gyasi”

“The Black Stars has become individual Black Stars and so they should be careful with their career” he said on Angel TV monitored by Footballghana.com.
