There has been speculation linking Adam with summer moves to Glasgow Rangers and Cardiff City, while Aston and Villa and Derby are both said to be interested in Whelan. As for the man himself, he has no interest in leaving.

He told the Daily Record: "I have a year left and we'll see what happens. I'm happy to stay there and play, although it'll be another challenge. It has never crossed my mind to move on, though. Why would I? The family's happy, the kids are settled.

"I also know I'm not just a bit-part player – they still see me as a key player, an important part of the squad on the pitch and in the dressing room. Yeah, I'm not going to play every game, but when I am playing I'm contributing to the team, which is good."
