Chelsea Legend Pat Nevin Believes Liverpool Will 'Run Out of Steam' Before Squandering Title Hopes

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has casts doubts over Liverpool's title-credentials this season, claiming that Jurgen Klopp's side will inevitably 'run out of steam' if they keep up their high-octane style of play.

The Reds have made a fine start to the 2016/17 campaign, earning 26 points from their opening 11 games which leaves them on top-spot going into next week's trip to Southampton.

But Nevin, who became a fans' favourite at Stamford Bridgeaftermaking 193 appearances for Chelsea in the 1980's, believes that Jurgen Klopp's counter-pressing style will come back to bite Liverpool later in the season.

Liverpool brushed aside Watford last weekend in an emphatic 6-1 win, withgoals comingfromSadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum.

The win lifted Liverpool above Chelsea to the top of the table, but Nevin thinks that their fine form will only last 'until they get exhausted'.

Yes, it can last until they get exhausted, Nevin told Newstalk's Off The Ball show.

Pat Nevin If #LFC continue to play that football, even though I'm a #CFC and Everton fan, I hope they win the PL because it's beautiful.

They played so high up the park. Liverpool will be fine at home “ they will hammer a lot of teams. It's going away from home which will be difficult.

Klopp's side have Arsenal and Chelsea on their travels so far this season, also earning draws against Tottenham and Manchester United.

And although he doesn't think Liverpool go the distance, Nevin wants to see the Reds win the title if they can continue playing 'beautiful' football.

He added:If they [Liverpool] continue to play that football, even though I'm a Chelsea and Everton fan, I hope they win the league because it's beautiful,
