Chelsea Open Talks With AC Milan Over Proposed Transfer of Diego Lopez

Chelsea have initiated talks with AC Milan over the potential transfer of Diego Lopez in a report by the Daily Mail.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has lost his starting spotat AC Milan due to 17-year-old wonderkid Gianluigi Donnarumma stole the number one shirt at the Guiseppe Meazza. Asmir Begovic is reportedly on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, leaving no sufficient back-up for Thibaut Courtois.

The London club have apparently offered ex-Real Madrid keeper a three-yeardeal who would cost an ostensible fee with the main purpose of the deal to cut AC Milan's wage bill.

Marco Amelia of Chelsea is also in question whether he stays in London for the upcoming season, despite not playing a single minute in his time in England.

The Spanish goalkeeper originally made his name for himself playing in the La Liga, most prominently with Villarreal, where he made 171 appearances. He also endured a short spell at Sevilla before moving to Real Madrid to questionably replace Iker Casillas as the number one goalkeeper at the Bernabeu. This was initially a ploy that Jose Mourinho used to show no player was guaranteed a starting spot in his team at Real Madridand dropped all-time club great Casillas.

As Mourinho was eventually sacked, Lopez also departed when he lost his starting spot, moving over to Italy in 2014 to focus on a new start. Lopez enjoyed a great start to Milan life too, playing 28 times in his first season with the club, missing out the rest with injury.

However, Lopez lost his starting spot to youngster Donnarumma this season, and was limited to only eight games at the San Siro.
