Chelsea to Honour Memory of Blues Fan Croydon Crash Victim at Tottenham Game

Published on: 24 November 2016

Chelsea are set to honour the memory of a Croydon tram crash victim and former Blues season ticket holder, with a minute's applause during the match against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The derby is one of the most fiercely contested in Premier League football, but during the 63rd minute fans will put allegiances to one side and applaud the memory of former Chelsea supporter Robert Huxley.

Huxley was 63-years-old when he was killed by the tram crash, and was one of seven who lost their lives, after the tram derailed at over three-and-a-half times the speed limit.

Crystal Palace made a similar gesture during their recent match against Manchester City, holding a minute's silence prior to kick off to honour fans killed in the crash.

Chelsea fans have released a statement on social media documenting the planned action, with the leaflet reading: "Bob was a larger than life character and very hardworking.

He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend to many.

Bob attended Blues games with his brothers Phil, sons Adam and Ross, and close friends with whom he sat with in the Matthew Harding lower stand.

Newcastle United have also previously paid tribute to former fans with applause during games, and clapped during the 17th minute of their games after two fans were killed on a MH17 plane flight.

Chelsea head into the derby at the top of the Premier League, with Tottenham lagging behind in fifth, four points behind their London rivals.
