Like father, like son...
At least that's what Manchester United will be hoping now that they've signed Wayne Rooney's son Kai to their books.According to theThe Sun, the 6-year-old has been attending training sessions for United'syouth team for a number of weeks.
In another twist of footballing fate, Michael Carrick's son Jacey is also on the Red Devils' books.
With around 25 youngsters playing for the United development squad, competition is undoubtedly fierce, but it's fair to presume both Kai and Jacey have a genetic upper-hand over their rivals.
The sessions takeplace at the club's old Cliff training ground in Salford, Greater Manchester and it's been reported that Coleen Rooney (who, at 30, is the same age as her husband), has helped take their boy to practice when Wayne is playing away during the week.
A source said: Wayne and Michael really get into it when they bring their their boys down. The kids seem to love it and have been coming down regularly in the week to train with the young development squad.
It's a bit funny because both their dads aren't playing as much any more but these guys could be the club's stars of the future.
If successful, Kai and Jacey would be offered professional deals at 16; until then, potential United players can sign schoolboy forms when aged 10 or 11. Prior to that, players are not contracted to the club, but are trained and filtered to the club's older age groups.
Comprised of the top local talent - generated by the scouting of clubs and also by invitation - United's youth development side is world renowned, having played a key role in moulding the fabled 'Class of 92'.
