Exciting Ghanaian winger, Joseph Paintsil has hinted that Chris Hughton is determined to build a Black Stars squad capable of winning trophies.

The former Premier League manager was first named as the technical advisor for the senior national team and played a key in the country's qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

However, following Otto Addo's resignation after the tournament, the 64-year-old has been named as the new head trainer of the team on a 21-month deal.

Since his appointment, the Black Stars have won one and drawn one of his first two matches in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers staged in March.

Speaking in a recent interview after a match, the KRC Genk player described the former Newcastle and Tottenham manager as a good coach who intends to develop the Black Stars to title-winning status.

“He (Chris Hughton) is a very good coach," he said. "I hope that he helps us in terms of growing as a team.

"He intends to build us to win trophies in the future,” he added.

Paintsil made his return to the Black Stars against Angola after being left out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Ghanaian player has 30 goal contributions, the most by any African player in Europe. He has scored 16 goals with 14 assists in 35 matches.
