Christian Atsu: Newcastle winger to remain in Ghana following government decision to shut down airspace

Published on: 24 March 2020

Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu is set to remain stuck in Ghana after the government of the West African country announced that it is shutting down its airspace.

The Black Stars asset returned to his homeland country due to the suspension of English football by authorities in the European country because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

While he was hoping to spend some time in Ghana before later traveling back to England, it looks like he could be stuck for quite some time.

As a precautionary measure against the spread of the Coronavirus in Ghana, the government has closed all borders and has indicated that no human traffic will be allowed in or out of the country.

They will, however, continue to monitor the situation of the Covid-19 and will make changes in due time.

Christian Atsu is expected to stay in Ghana for the next few months and will train to ensure he stays in top form and shape in anticipation of returning to England as soon as possible when the English Premier League resumes.
