Atsu made 31 appearances for Newcastle last season before going off with a knee injury which he required a surgery to correct it.

The 26-year old has been impressive in preseason- something that can get him a starting role in Rafa Benitez's side this term.

However, the Black Star is looking forward to kicking off the new campaign with United.

“This season I will be more effective, score more goals and give more assists," he said from the team hotel in Braga.

“This is what I believe.

“Honestly the fans will see a big difference from last season.”

Newcastle United take on Tottenham Hotspur in their English Premier League opener at St James Park on August 11.
