Black Stars coach CK Akonnor has included Asamoah Gyan, Michael Essien and Stephen Appiah to his all time national team XI with Sulley Muntari and John Mensah failing to find a place there.

The former Asante Kotoko coach had a successful eleven year spell with the national team and captained them at some point in his career.

He played with some of the greatest players and picked these eleven as his best.

"Richard Kingson will be in goal," he told Joy Sports.

"Frank Amankwah on the right."

"The old players must excuse me. I am doing this from the 90s. I didn’t see majority of them so they should excuse me."

"Isaac Asare as left back."

"Osei Kuffour and Frimpong Manso who always give me knock[s] in the national team."

"Stephen Appiah and Michael Essien. You can’t do without them. They are the people who from the next generation they took over and they made Ghana proud."

"Maestro [Abedi Pele], Mohammed Polo, Asamoah Gyan and Anthony Yeboah. Of course Maestro will be my captain."

He surprisingly excluded himself from that XI but added that he will be the first substitute in there.

“As for me, I will be the number 12 [12th man]. I always say that, you don’t try to change me. When you bring me in, I will score. I am part of the subs.”

CK Akonnor is currently on a two year deal with the Black Stars. He has been tasked with winning AFCON 2021 and qualifying the team to the 2022 World Cup.
