CK Akonnor credits Kwasi Appiah for Ghana’s AFCON qualification

Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has credited former Black Stars trainer, James Kwasi Appiah for the country’s qualification to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cameroon next year.

Ghana beat Sao Tome 3-1 to end the qualifiers in style.

Nicholas Opoku, Jordan Ayew and Baba Rahman goals were enough for the Black Stars to pick up all points to go top of Group C.

The Ghana Football Association at the expiration of Appiah’s contract declined to renew with him.

However, CK Akonnor who joined in the interim as assistant coach of the national team was appointed to replace Kwasi Appiah.

Speaking after the game, coach Akonnor praised Appiah who started the qualifiers and is of the view his outstanding performance played a vital role in securing qualification at the end.

"I would like to first of all thank my former boss Kwasi Appiah who started the qualifiers, winning two games."

"He’s the reason why we just needed to win one and draw to make it and I want to acknowledge him for everything” he said.
