CK Akonnor keeps door open over a possible return to Asante Kotoko

New assistant coach for the Black Stars of Ghana, CK Akonnor has hinted of a possible return to manage Kumasi Asante Kotoko in a recent interaction on social media.

The gaffer was appointed head coach for the Porcupine Warriors last year but could not work for up to a full year as he was recently axed from his position.

His sacking came as a big surprise to many especially when he had performed exceptionally well with the team in the CAF Confederations Cup in the last edition.

In addition to that, Coach Akonnor guided the team to glory in the tier 1 of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalization Committee as Kotoko secured qualification to feature in this year’s CAF Champions League.

In a shocking twist, he was booted out by the management of the Kumasi-based club and replaced with Norwegian tactician Kjetil Zachariassen.

After performing poorly with the team, the expatriate coach is under fire and on the brink of being sacked.

In a recent Twitter interaction, Coach CK Akonnor was asked whether he would return to Kotoko to coach again.

He responded, “There is always a chance in the future for such”.

Though he is keeping his options open, he is now focused on his new role as the assistant head coach for the Black Stars who are set to come up against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe this month in the qualifiers to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
