A former Great Olympics manager, J.E Sarpong has alleged that the head coach of the Black Stars, CK Akonnor’s hands are tied and is being manipulated.

Akonnor, who was appointed on a two year deal in 2020 has come under the knife due to the performance of the senior national team.

Despite the Black Stars recording a 1-0 win against Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Stadium in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, the team has come under intense pressure.

On Monday, the Black Stars suffered a late 1-0 defeat against South Africa in Johannesburg in the second Group G game.

Following the defeat, irate football fans took to social media to call for the sack of Akonnor but J. E Sarpong believes the former Dreams FC and Asante Kotoko gaffer is being manipulated.

“It is very sad to see CK Akonnor in this difficult situation because we were all expecting him to excel but that is not what we are seeing,” he said on Asempa FM.

“I feel he is being manipulated by some people because I feel some players don’t deserve to play the national team but they find themselves in there and that is a problem,” he added.

Akonnor, 47, replaced Kwesi Appiah.
