Claude Makelele wasn't half bad in his day.
He starred for Real Madrid in the Galacticos era, and was often looked at as the most important part of that team. The glue that held it all together. There was uproar in the Spanish capital when he was sold on, but Chelsea got one heck of a deal for their money there.
Claude was integral to Chelsea's first ever Premier League title wins just over a decade ago, and made a great name for himself in England too. Heck, he even ended up having a position named after him; a term that people still even use to this day.
He was a special player. But he played alongside some of the world's greatest over his illustrious career - Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, David Beckham, Raul and Ronaldo. And that was only at Real Madrid. Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry were regular mates at international level, and names like Frank Lampard and Arjen Robben played alongside him at Chelsea.
But Makelele chose the unlikeliest of names as his "best ever teammate." Ivan bloody Helguera.
Talking to UEFA.com, Makelelewas asked who was better: Zidane or current Los Blancos legend Cristiano Ronaldo, and he said:"You can't compare the two! They play different positions - they had different leadership qualities.
"[The best was] Ivan Helguera who played in midfield with me at Madrid. We had a great chemistry; we'd train together, we'd eat together. He knew where I'd move on the pitch, I'd know when he was going to push up and try and score."
Erm, alright Claude mate.
