Claudio Bravo Discusses Methods of Stopping Lionel Messi Ahead of Champions League Clash

Published on: 16 October 2016

Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is looking forward to making his return to Camp Nou to face former club Barcelona on Wednesday and is expecting a warm welcome from the Catalan crowd despite his hopes of thwarting Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

Asked by Mundo Deportivo if he is predicting a special welcome, Bravo replied, "the best".

"I left with the feeling of having done well at Camp Nou. I feel that the fans recognised my work in the last match against Real Betis and I want to see them again," he explained.

The Chilean, who moved for £17m in August, remains calm ahead of the heavyweight Champions League clash, describing himself as "happy" to be back on familiar turf.

"It is an attractive and important game," he said. "I'm happy to be back on the stage that allowed me to have beautiful experiences and opened the doors to elite football for me."

Having faced the MSN trio in training everyday for two years, Bravo, who admitted the Premier League is more of a physical challenge than La Liga, is certainly motivated to play against Messi, Suarez and Neymar because he knows just how good they are.

"It is a privilege to play against them because it motivates anyone," the 33-year-old said.

"We are two teams with similar styles and the only way to stop Barça is based on intensity," Bravo added. "Many study the opponent but Leo is magical and different. He always makes a difference and sometimes it helps little to analyse."

Barcelona responded to a shock defeat against Celta Vigo before the international break with a comfortable 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday, a game in which Messi, on his return from injury, and Suarez both found the net along with a brace from Rafinha.
