Club Beer has launched a 5-aside football tournament for amateurs, which will see the ultimate winners make a trip to Tanzania where they would represent Ghana at the African level.
At a short ceremony on Monday, the company outdoored the competition which is part of the African zone’s football activation with 8 other countries in the ABInBev Africa family. The tournament will be executed in 500 selected outlets across Ghana and is open to both female and male team participants.
Country Director for Acccra Brewery Limited, producers of Club Beer, Shaun Raposo revealed that the tournament will kick start on March 15, 2019 and will be executed in 500 selected outlets across Ghana where the winning team will represent Ghana in the final in Tanzania. Shaun revealed that a special prize awaits the highest Club retail seller.
He added, “I am proud to announce that 2 retailers with the highest volume of Cub sold over the period will accompany the winning team to Tanzania.”
Ewurafua Addo-Atuah, head of Marketing at Accra Brewery also noted that any team suspected of fielding a professional player would be disqualified from the tournament. She maintained that the tournament is purposefully for amateur players both male and female.
She explained that, “Participating teams can register at entry boxes where Charlies enter their team of 5 into the competition. Elimination matches will be organised in April at the local community levels, through to the regional level and national final until a winning team emerges.”
Ewurafua went on to promise that the ultimate “African winners will get the opportunity to travel to Europe on an ultimate football experience.”
A team made of former Ghanaian football stars, Augstine Arhinful, Laryea Kingston, Sam Johonson, John Paintsil and former Black Queens keeper, Memunatu Sulemana entertained the fans in an exhibition match against a 5-aside team from Kotobabi as a curtain raiser.
John Paintsil commended Club Beer for such an initiative whiles advising young players to take advantage of the tournament saying, “It’s a very good initiative for the young talented players, this can take them to the next level.”
