Coach Ibrahim Tanko admits his Black Meteors side has defensive problems

Head coach for the Black Meteors of Ghana, Ibrahim Tanko has admitted that his team has a problem in their defensive set up which has been a worry for them at the 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Since the start of the continental showpiece, the West African side has conceded some cheap goals which in truth could have been avoided.

In a semi-final clash against Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday, the defense could not hold the fort as they conceded two goals in the run of play. Though the team managed to pull level, they went on to lose on penalties.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Coach Ibrahim Tanko says his team has a problem with its backline.

“We have a problem in the defense as we have all seen. We do not have some key players and we do not have the quality to replace them and that is the truth. We do not have the player we used in the qualifiers”, the gaffer shared.

He continued, “The players we have keep making new mistakes and these young players will have to learn from them. It is painful for them to make such mistakes at such crucial moments but it is no excuse at all.”

The gaffer will be hoping his players will be at their best on Friday when they take on South Africa at the Cairo International Stadium in a 3rd place match.
