Spanish Segunda B side Córdoba CF has lost their poster boy Kwabena Owusu after he joined the Black Meteors of Ghana for the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which is starting in Egypt this Friday.

The striker’s departure is a big blow for the Spanish club following his outstanding displays for them since the start of the season. He currently leads the goal-scoring chart ahead of all players of his team with four goals.

He arrived at the Black Meteors camp on Tuesday night and will train with the team today as they seek to wrap up preparations before the start of the tournament which will serve as a qualifying ground for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Whiles away on international duty, Owusu is likely to miss at least 3 matches for Córdoba CF with the first being the game against UCAM Murcia this weekend.

If Ghana makes it to the finals of the u-23 AFCON, he could miss up to five matches for the side.

His services will be hugely missed at Córdoba CF as their manager Raúl Agné ponders over who to replace the lethal striker with. His option on the bench is Juanto Ortuño even though he has not looked as sharp as Kwabena Owusu this season.

With Ghana set to play her first match against Cameroon on Friday, Owusu will be in action for Ibrahim Tanko’s charges.
