Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus wanted to start 2019 with a win

Published on: 16 January 2019

Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo is happy to have scored the deciding goal en route to capturing his first trophy with the Bianconeri on Wednesday.

The Portuguese star headed home the only goal in the Supercoppa Italian on Wednesday, as Juve cruised to a 1-0 victory over rivals AC Milan.

It means the Bianconeri have won the competition eight times – the most ever – but Ronaldo was more excited by the fact it’s his first trophy with the club.

“I’m very happy,” he told Rai Sport after the match. “It’s what I wanted.

“I’ve won my first trophy with Juventus as we wanted to start 2019 on the right foot.

“It was a tough match, especially because of the heat. However we played well, and we created a lot of chances. I’m very happy to have scored the winning goal.”

Celebrations will be short lived however, as Ronaldo’s mind is already on Monday’s Serie A contest with Chievo.

“The league is Juve’s main goal,” he added. “There’s still a long way to go there however.

“We have to continue down this road.”
