Cristiano Ronaldo's Incredible Run of Shots on Target in the Champions League Finally Ends

Published on: 23 November 2016

All good things must come to end.

What goes up must come down.

And, of course, most famously of all: one day Ronaldo won't have a shot on target in a Champions League group game.

For the first time in his Real Madrid career, the polarisingPortuguese failed to register single shot worth throwing a glove at, asOptaJosepointed out after Real Madrid's 1-2 victory to Sporting CP in Lisbon.

The 31-year-old may be the competition's all-time leading scorer but was left feeling thoroughly average, when it was left to mere mortals Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane to save the day. How embarrassing.

The Ballon d'Or frontrunner may have bagged a hattrick against city rivals Atletico in La Liga at the weekend but as we allknow in football (and social media) the past matters for little... and Ronaldo failing is quite funny.

To compound a night of personal misery for Ronaldo, arch-nemesis Lionel Messi scored twice to reach 100 goals in international competitions for Barcelona. Ouch.

Will the former Manchester United star recover in time for el Clasico on December 3? Or, are we witnessingthe beginning of the end for the three-time Champions League winner?

Spoiler: Of course we aren't. He'll probably get another hat trick, the rascal.
