Current Black Stars would have been jailed under Kwame Nkrumah's regime

Multiple AFCON winner with the Black Stars Reverend Osei Kofi says the current team would have been jailed during Kwame Nkrumah’s era for their failure to win the African Cup of Nation’s title.

Ghana's senior national team have not won the AFCON trophy since 1982 with their golden generation of players failing to end their 34-year trophy-drought.

Players including Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Mathew Amoah, Asamha Gyan and Richard Kingson have failed to end the wait for a title at senior level despite coming close twice in the last five editions.

Rev Osei Kofi won the AFCON title in 1965 and says that side were motivated to win the title in order to avoid being imprisoned.

“I got to know that if we go and we don’t do well, I will go to Nsawam (prison) because I broke the rules of the camp and God being so good we went and won the cup and I was the joint top scorer and the best player of the tournament.

“These people (the current Black Stars) who are misbehaving, we give you $100,000 and you don’t perform? If it was the days of Nkrumah, they would have been in prison.” he told Pulse.com.gh.
