Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has been named SWAG home-based footballer of the year for his great performance in the previous year.

On Friday, December 17, 2021, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) conducted its 46th awards event at the Accra International Conference Centre, recognising outstanding sports figures in the country.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was named the best local player of the year, defeating Asante Kotoko captain Abdul Ganiyu Ismail and last season's top scorer Diawusie Taylor.

The 20-year-old was exceptional for both club and country, leading the national men's U-20 team, Black Satellites, to victory in the Africa Youth Championship in Mauritania.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh also played a key role in Hearts of Oak breaking their nearly a decade-long trophy drought by winning the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup in the previous season.
