Daniel Amartey's involvement in the AFCON will be a huge blow to Leicester

Leicester City may be missing Daniel Amartey for up to eight games in January due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana will compete in the competition's finals, which will take place from January 9 to February 6, 2022.

Amartey has been a key player for Leicester this season, enjoying football again after spending previous seasons out of action due to injuries.

While the finals may not begin until after the new year, as reported by the Athletic, players might be asked to travel to their respective countries as early as December 27, a day after City face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

If Amartey joins the Black Stars early, he will be unavailable for City's next game against Liverpool on December 28 at the King Power Stadium.

If Ghana advances to the final rounds of the competition, Amartey will be out of the Premier League, FA Cup, and perhaps Carabao Cup for well over a month.

The eight games Amartey will possibly miss:

Liverpool (H) Dec 28

Norwich City (H) Jan 1

Carabao Cup semi-final leg 1 W/C Jan 3

FA Cup third round Jan 8

Carabao Cup semi-final leg 2 W/C Jan 10

Burnley (A) Jan 15

Brighton (H) Jan 22

FA Cup fourth round Feb 5
