De Graafschaap defender Leeroy Owusu decides to represent Ghana

De Graafschaap youngster Leeroy Owusu has decided to represent the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars, Footballghana.com report.

The 23-year-old was born in Amsterdam and went through the youth system of Ajax before moving to De Graafschap in 2018.

According to Ghanacrusder.com, Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah had a dinner with the defender in Amsterdam on Monday and made a request for him to switch allegiance to the country of his parents which he has agreed.

He has previously played for the Netherlands U-17, 18, 19 and 20 teams but he is yet to earn a senior team cap.

The highly-rated defender can also play as a winger as well as a central midfielder and he is noted for his high work rate.

Both the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the player are expected to write to the world football governing body FIFA soon for the nationality switch.
