Death of Rawlings: Premier League clubs to observe a minute silence on opening weekend

On the opening weekend of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season, teams will observe a minute silence before kickoff in honour of late Jerry John Rawlings, the Ghana FA has said.

The former President of the Republic of Ghana passed on Thursday in the hours leading to the Black Stars’ match against Sudan.

While the country continues in a state of mourning, the GFA has announced today that clubs will observe a minute silence this weekend before every game from Saturday to Monday.

“Premier League Clubs will observe a minute silence before kick-off at all match venues this weekend as a mark of respect for His Excellency, Jerry John Rawlings who passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020.”

Yesterday, a minute silence was observed for the deceased former President prior to the kickoff of the AFCON qualifier between Ghana and Sudan.

In addition, the Black Stars players wore Black armbands throughout the 2-0 win.
