Dortmund Manager Thomas Tuchel Says Christian Pulisic Must Wait for His Turn

Published on: 09 September 2016

Borussia Dortmund Head Coach Thomas Tuchel has made a statement to ESPN that insists 17-year-old sensation Christian Pulisic will need to wait for his chance to play for BVB.

In a statement, he said: "He started preseason late as a 17-year-old. This makes being selected for the match-day squad harder.

The young prospect set the record for the youngest player to play for the USA when he featured in games against St Vincent, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Tuchel said: "We are delighted that Christian is that successful for the United States. He's only 17 years, and it's a huge, huge achievement and a confirmation of his talent. To beat those records is testimony to his quality."

He scored twice against St Vincent and played a predominant part in the rout of Trinidad and Tobago. However, Tuchel added "Those were games against St. Vincent and Trinidad. And if you play against Trinidad, it's not like you have the right to play Bayern in the Super Cup. And he's aware of it. It's difficult enough to cope with all the praise and distraction and to remain open for the normal processes.

On the ESPN chat show, pundits discussed a tweet regarding Pulisic's hard work rate. The tweet said, 'Should we worry about the health of Pulisic due to his physical style of play and his size?' A member of the panel said: "I don't think Christian's going to be that way. Please don't be that way Christian!"

However, Pulisic must prove he has the match fitness to become a feature in the Bundesliga, although for American's, there is plenty to be excited about already.
