Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Says PSG's 'Poor' Behaviour Led to Failed Summer Bid

Published on: 23 September 2016

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has said that Paris-Saint Germain attempted to sign him in the summer - but they failed to match Borussia Dortmund's asking price.

The striker revealed that the current Ligue 1 champions were extremely interested in ending his three-year stay at the Westfalonstadion, but did not offer the required fee to prise him away from his current employers.

Aubameyang went on to explain that the French outfit were told to approach his father, who doubles as the 27-year-old's agent, over a possible switch to the Parc des Princes. However, representatives from Paris-Saint Germain bypassed him completely, and spoke directly to the club instead.

Aubameyang said: "Yes, it happened (Paris-Saint Germain's approach), but it was quickly cut short.

"Not because I didn't want to join Paris, but because they acted poorly.

"That's what my father says, anyway. Maybe it would have been better if they had had a sporting director.

"Paris-Saint Germain were told to go through my father to speak to the club, but in the end they bypassed him and wanted to speak directly to the club (Dortmund). They, inevitably, closed the door.

"Paris-Saint Germain's offer was a lot less than what Dortmund wanted, so talks came to a stop quickly."

Aubameyang's confirmation of the Qatari Investment Authority-owned side's interest is the latest in a series of clubs reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

The Gabon international was also linked with Manchester City throughout the summer, while the forward has made it known that he would love the opportunity to play for La Liga giants Real Madrid at some point in the future.

Paris-Saint Germain had been on the lookout for a new first-choice striker in the wake of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure to Manchester United.

The former Sweden international had plied his trade in France since 2012, but left on a free transfer in the summer to join Jose Mourinho's apparent revolution at Old Trafford instead.

Edinson Cavani and Jean-Kevin Augustin remain the only recognised senior strikers at Paris-Saint Germain.

Aubameyang has registered 86 goals in just 150 appearances for Dortmund since his 2013 summer switch from Saint Etienne.
