Ghana and Orlando Pirates defender Edwin Gyimah is likely to miss out on Ghana’s 2018 world cup qualifier against Egypt after suffering from a tendon tear.
The Black Stars defender who was called up for the world cup qualifier against Uganda, picked up the injury while on international duty and had to miss his side’s 1-1 draw against Polokwane City at the weekend.
Speaking to the media after Pirates drawn game at the weekend, Coach Muhsin Ertugral revealed Gyimah will still need some time to regain full fitness.
"Gyimah – on his tendon has a big problem. You know, the tendon doesn't have it's own blood circulation so any other contact can burst that maybe, which could be a problem so we'll see. Yesterday he trained and went back in the dressing room again," he added.
The strong versatile defender, who earned his national team debut in 2012, has failed to command a regular start in the Black Stars but continues to be a regular back up option for Head coach Avram Grant.
