Head Coach for the Pharaohs of Egypt, Javier Aguirre has revealed that he will resign from his post if the team fails to clinch the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

This year’s continental showdown is to be hosted by the records and as expected they will be gunning to win the prestigious trophy on home soil. They are one of the favorites to emerge as winners, meaning there is pressure on the gaffer to deliver at the end of the tournament.

Speaking in an interview with Journalists over the weekend, the Mexican tactician revealed the Pharaohs has set up targets for the tournament and he will walk away if he is not able to lead the team to achieve those targets.

Nonetheless, the gaffer insists his team is focused on the assignment on ahead and preparing very well for their opening match against Zimbabwe.

"We don’t think about anything right now except the opening game against Zimbabwe. I am only focused on the tournament and I am bound with the Egyptian Football Association with a contract”.

“However, I will definitely leave if I found myself incapable of achieving the targets of Egypt, he said.

He added, “We have a squad of 23 players that were chosen by the technical staff with utmost conviction, so I don’t want to discuss any other player out of the list. We will return to Cairo on June 17 to resume preparations. We can’t wait to play at Cairo Stadium in front of the Egyptian audience”

Egypt has been drawn in Group A against Zimbabwe, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The tournament will start on Friday, June 21 and will end on July 19, 2019.
