The Pharoahs of Egypt secured a 2-1 away win against Congo in the 2018 world cup qualifiers on Sunday to take charge of Group E.

Huge center forward Dore Ferebory put the home side in front after just 24 minutes. The Congolese came close to scoring the second goal immediately after the opener but experienced keeper Essam El-Hadary denied Fabrice Ondama.

Egypt however equalized four minutes before the break through AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah who scored from a header on the service of Mohamed Abdelshafy.

Salah thus took his internationally tally to 26 goals in 43 appearances making him his country’s 7th all-time leading goal scorer.

The Seven times African Champions did not take long to score their second of the day as Abdalla El Said provided the winner in the 58th minute as Congo pushed more men high up the pitch in search of the equalizer but failed at it as the referee ended proceedings to put Egypt in charge of Group E.

Egypt who are chasing their first World Cup appearance since 1990, will host Ghana on November 7, 2016 with revenge on their minds after the Black Stars denied them in 2014.

Ghana who failed to pick maximum points at home against Uganda, will also be hoping to record the double over the Pharoahs
